Idea Cellular is planning to launch 3G services on its own spectrum in the 900 MHz band in the Delhi circle in April 2015. At present, Idea Cellular offers these services in the circle under the 3G intra-circle roaming (ICR) pacts with other service providers.
The telecom operator had won 5 MHz of spectrum in this band in the Delhi circle for Rs 37.04 billion in the February 2014 auctions. It already has 2G sites in the circle and is now planning to upgrade it to 3G technology along with setting up new 3G sites.
The operator had signed a 3G ICR agreement with Vodafone India and Bharti Airtel in 2014. Although Idea Cellular has a licence to provide 3G services in 11 circles on own 3G spectrum, it currently provides 3G services in 21 circles of India except the Odisha circle under the ICR arrangement.
