Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in partnership with Kochi Corporation has awarded a contract to QuadGen Wireless Solutions Inc., to offer Wi-Fi facility in the city. Under the agreement, ten major places in Kochi, namely Fort Kochi, Mattanchery, Marine Drive, High Court, Subash Park, Main Office of the Kochi Corporation, Jos Junction, Vyttila Mobility Hub, Edappally Junction and Kaloor will have Wi-Fi services in the first phase. The facility will be available free of cost for 15 minutes per day for one month. The offer will then be extended depending on the traffic and demand from the customers.
According to the state-run operator, Wi-Fi will be available in a radius of 300 metres from the ten access points and a bandwidth of 10 mbps will be available to the customers. Further, the Wi-Fi zones will become fully operational by March 2015 and the public would be able to access the facility from April.
