
According to the Ministry of Communications and IT, Idea Cellular, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Reliance Telecom, a subsidiary of Reliance Communications (RCOM) gained the highest number of net customers from other telecom operators through mobile number portability (MNP) requests as of end-October 2014.
Idea Cellular gained a net customer base of 12.5 million through MNP, followed by Vodafone India with a net addition of 10.4 million subscribers. Around 5 million net customers from other telecom operators were gained by Bharti Airtel, while Reliance Telecom received 38.4 million net subscribers at the end of October 2014.
Further, the ministry added that the RCOM, Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) and Aircel lost the highest number of customers who ported out of their networks in the same time period. RCOM?s net loss of subscribers stood over 7.8 million as of October 2014, while TTSL and Aircel lost 5.3 million and 3.6 million net customers respectively. These three telecom operators were followed by the state-run enterprises, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) in losing customers through MNP requests. BSNL lost a net of 2.2 million customers on MNP requests and MTNL lost 2.7 million customers. However, MTNL loss of customers was four times the number of customers it gained at end-October 2014.
