Globally, carrier Ethernet equipment market is expected to grow from $27 billion in 2013 to over $30 billion in 2018, says Infonetics Research.
The research firm state that operators? move to migrate from time-division multiplexing-based networks to packet-based networks is going to be the key growth driver for the carrier Ethernet equipment market. In addition, the growing traffic from consumer, business, and mobile backhaul networks, particularly video traffic is also going to drive operators to make significant investments in Ethernet technologies to upgrade their existing networks.
Further, Ethernet equipment spending for mobile backhaul will increase from $8.4 billion in 2013 to $9.2 billion in 2018. Infonetics Research underlines that pricing and technology changes are resulting in decline in investments in networks based on synchronous optical networking and synchronous digital hierarchy. Similarly, the telecom industry is witnessing lower investments in microwave technology as well.
