Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to approach the Telecom Commission for its approval to purchase telecom equipment worth Rs 30 billion. The operator plans to source this equipment from Indian manufacturers such as Vihaan Networks Limited (VNL) and Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited (HFCL).
The equipment procured from the two companies will be deployed for rolling out GSM network in naxal-affected regions. BSNL plans to procure 70 per cent and 30 per cent of the 3G telecom equipment from VNL and HFCL, respectively.
The project is being funded by Universal Service Obligation Fund.
