The government has asked the Ministry of Telecommunications and IT to fast-track the process of deciding the reserve price for CDMA spectrum for the forthcoming auction.

Earlier, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had approached the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to recommend a reserve price for CDMA spectrum, so that it could be sold in the January 2014 auction. The regulatory body however, did not share its recommendation on the base price and instead suggested that the government not proceed with the planned auction of CDMA spectrum and instead use the band for providing GSM services.

In view of TRAI declining to recommend a reserve price for the CDMA spectrum auction, the government has now asked the Ministry of Telecommunications and IT to take a final call on the matter.
