The government is likely to increase funds for the National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) project from Rs 200 billion to Rs 250 billion. Under the NOFN project, the government aims to connect 250,000 gram panchayats across the country with high-speed broadband services.
The government?s decision to increase the budget for the NOFN project comes in the wake of increasing costs due to delay in the rollout of the project. Initially, the project was expected to be completed by end of 2012 but now the government expects to complete NOFN project by 2014-15.
