
The government is likely to float a tender for procuring gigabit passive optical network (GPON)-based telecom equipment for the national broadband network (NOFN) project.
While selecting the suppliers for the same, the government will follow the preferential market access policy. As part of the same, 75 per cent of the total equipment required for the project will be sourced through domestic companies. The rest of the equipment will be sourced from foreign telecom equipment vendors.
As per news reports, Indian telecom equipment manufacturers likely to participate in the tender include the centre for the Development of Telematics and Tejas Networks. Foreign players could include companies like Ericsson, Nokia- Siemens Network and Huawei.
