According to Gartner, the global device market is expected to reach 2.35 billion units in 2013, a 5.9 per cent increase over 2012. The devices category includes personal computers, tablets and mobile handsets.

As per the firm, the space is being driven by the sales of tablets, smartphones and ultramobiles, as PC shipments have declined.

Globally, traditional PC (desk-based and notebook) shipments are forecast to total 305 million units in 2013, a 10.6 per cent decline over 2012. In comparison, the PC market, including ultramobiles, is expected to witness a 7.3 per cent decline this year.

Meanwhile, tablet shipments are expected to increase by 67.9 per cent to 202 million units, while the mobile handset space is expected to grow by 4.3 per cent, with a volume of over 1.8 billion units.
