
According to the data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) the total telecom subscriber base reached 861.7 million at the end of February 2013. In comparison, at the end of January 2013, the total telecom subscriber base stood at 862.6 million.
Idea Cellular netted in the highest number of new users in February 2013. The operator added 2.89 million users during the month, followed by Bharti Airtel which added 2.42 million users. Vodafone India, Reliance Communications and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited added 2.18 million, 1.63 million and 0.42 million new users, respectively.
Further, as per the data released by TRAI, the total user base of operators like Uninor, Aircel, Tata Teleservices Limited, Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited, Videocon, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, and Loop Mobile declined in the month of February. Amongst all the operators, Uninor lost the highest number of subscribers. The operator lost 8.3 million customers during the month.
Further, as per TRAI, the wireline subscriber base in the country declined from 30.52 million in January 2013 to 30.36 million in February 2013. During the period under consideration, the share of mobile phone connection in the urban areas declined from 61.31 per cent to 60.50 per cent. In February more than 2.5 million users approached operators for porting their numbers.
TRAI data shows that the total broadband subscriber base in the country declined from 15.01 million in January 2013 to 15 million in February 2013.
