China-based handset manufacturer, Gionee is planning to debut in the Indian handset market.
The company plans to launch its entire range of feature phones and smartphones in the Indian market, from March 2013 onwards. Currently, the company sells over 23 million handsets per year in the China mainland and is the second largest mobile phone company in the GSM market. It has an annual production capacity of 40 million units.
For importing and distributing its products in India, Gionee has tied up with four companies based out of Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata and Bengaluru. Further, to support its operations in India, the company has established an office in New Delhi and it is in the process of building its core team. The company?s office based out of New Delhi is expected to help strengthen Gionee?s brand presence by providing marketing, sales and service support to its Indian partners and consumers. The office is expected to play a key role in product testing, validation and customisation for the Indian handset market.
