Reliance Communications (RCOM) has obtained a stay order from the Calcutta High Court until February 28, 2013, with regard to paying the one-time licence fee, say news reports.
The Court has directed the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) not to take any coercive measure against the operator for collecting the one-time licence fee of Rs 1734.7 million for the company?s GSM spectrum.
Prior to this, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone India and Aircel had already obtained stay orders from different courts on the same issue.
DoT had asked operators to pay a one-time licence fee for 2G spectrum beyond 4.4 MHz. Further, it directed operators to pay a one-time licence fee retrospectively for the 2G spectrum held by them beyond 6.2 MHz between July 2008 and December 2012.
