The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed operators whose licences were cancelled by the Supreme Court in February, 2012 to inform their subscribers that their mobile services will be discontinued from January 18, 2012, say news reports.

TRAI has provided operators like Uninor, Videocon, Tata Teleservices and Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited 10 days? time to either send text messages or provide the necessary information in writing to all their customers in the circles where they have been unable to retain spectrum.

Together, these operators have a total of 26 million subscribers in the circles where they failed to renew their licences in the recently concluded 2G spectrum auction.
