According to a report by Infonetics Research, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has registered the highest increase in terms of market share in the long-term-evolution (LTE) space for the third quarter of 2012.

NSN’s share in the LTE market increased from 13 per cent to 21.5 per cent. In the third quarter of 2012, NSN has significantly closed the gap with market leader Ericsson and taken a lead over Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei.

As per the report, countries like the US, Japan, and South Korea have witnessed lot of activity in the LTE space, whereas BRIC countries have registered low activity in this space. For the third quarter of 2012, the LTE space registered a growth of 30 per cent globally. The three largest LTE deployments by revenue in the third quarter of 2012 came from North America, Japan and South Korea. NSN’s increased market share in LTE reflects the company’s strong position in the international markets; North America, Japan and South Korea. NSN has partnered with players like NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and Softbank Mobile in Japan, with KT, SK telecom and LGU+ in South Korea and with T-Mobile in the US.

As per the report, the global 2G, 3G and 4G (including LTE and Wi-Max) infrastructure market registered a decline of 4.7 per cent in comparison to the third quarter of 2011.

Infonetics Research says that LTE is the only technology to have registered strong growth in the third quarter of 2012.  The rest of the mobile infrastructure market witnessed a sharp drop in CDMA gear. Going forward, the research firm expects a higher demand for 2G, 3G, and LTE equipment.
