The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has rejected the telecom operators’ petition against the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on value added service (VAS), say news reports.

TDSAT has given operators three months to implement TRAI’s guidelines on VAS.

Earlier, operators had approached the TDSAT against TRAI’s guidelines on VAS which required operators to take prior confirmation before activating and charging subscribers for such services.

Both the Cellular Operators Association of India and the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India had opposed TRAI’s guidelines, on grounds that they were unreasonable and unwarranted.

In July 2011, TRAI had framed a set of directives which required operators to obtain confirmation from their subscribers through SMS, e-mail, fax or in writing within 24 hours of activation of VAS.
