Idea Cellular has approached the Supreme Court challenging the government?s decision for restricting the quantum of spectrum available for auctioning in the forthcoming 2G spectrum auction, say news reports
The operator has requested the Supreme Court to direct the government to auction the entire spectrum that has been vacated post cancellation of 122 2G licenses in February 2012.
The cancellation of the licenses has resulted into release of 514 MHz of pan-India spectrum. However, in the forthcoming 2G auction the government is only offering 302.5 MHz for auction.
Idea Cellular in its petition has urged the Supreme Court to quash the government?s decision for partial auctioning of spectrum and instead direct it to put up the complete spectrum (freed up during licence cancellation) for the auction.
The 2G spectrum auction is scheduled to begin on November 12, 2012.
