The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the merger of four broadband wireless business entities jointly owned by Qualcomm and Bharti Airtel.

As per the proposed merger, Qualcomm broadband wireless access (BWA) entities in Delhi, Kerala, Haryana and Mumbai would be merged with Wireless Business Services Private Limited (WBSPL), which was originally awarded the BWA licenses by the Department of Telecommunications.

Qualcomm owns 51 per cent stake in each of these four companies, the remaining 49 per cent stake is with Bharti Airtel.

According to CCI, even after the merger of wireless broadband business services (WBBS) Delhi, WBBS Kerala and WBBS Haryana with WBSPL combination and the shareholding pattern of WBSPL, the surviving entity, would remain the same. Thus, the merger will not have any adverse affect on competition in India.
