
COAI appoints Himanshu Kapania, Idea Cellular as its new chairman
The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has appointed a new leadership team for 2012-13.
Himanshu Kapania, managing director, Idea Cellular is the new COAI chairman. He is going to replace Sanjay Kapoor, while Marten Pieters, managing director, and chief executive officer, Vodafone India, has been elected as the vice-chairman.
Kapania brings to COAI about 25 years of experience in telecom and other industries. He has a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering and has done his post-graduation from Indian Institute of Management. Pieters has over three decades of industry experience in international and domestic telecom markets and has served in senior positions in various organisations. He holds a law degree from Groningen University, the Netherlands and has also completed a post-graduate course in Economics in 1979.
