The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has adjourned the hearing of the petition filed by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) to direct the government to cancel the GSM licence and spectrum given to Tata Tele Services Ltd (TTSL) and Tata Tele Service Maharashtra (TTML) in 2008.

The hearing was adjourned since the TDSAT bench was not present in full strength. The next date of hearing for the issue has been fixed as July 26, 2012.

Meanwhile, these companies plan to challenge the maintainability of the petition.

Earlier COAI had filed a petition with TDSAT asking it to modify or amend the order that it had issued on February 15, 2012 cancelling 122 2G licences as a result of the Supreme Court order. As per the petition filed by COAI with TDSAT, a total of 141 licences need to be cancelled including that of TTSL and Tata TTML as the apex court had ordered cancellation of all licences issued in 2008 by then Minister of IT and Telecommunications, A Raja.

TTSL and TTML, which offer services in both GSM and CDMA platforms, were issued GSM spectrum in 2008. Prior to that, they were offering services on the CDMA platform only.
