Operators up their efforts to adopt green technologies and reduce carbon footprint

July 9, 2012 | Archive News

In their bid to increase the uptake of green technologies and reduce carbon footprints, operators have begun to hold talks with renewable energy producers (RESCOs), say news reports.

These talks are focused on using the RESCO’s wind and solar power resources.

This has been a long-standing issue. In so far, telecom operators have been considered as the heaviest users of diesel. To stem this usage, various industry bodies, including the Cellular Operators Association of India and the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India have approached RESCOs to purchase their entire portfolio of power resources for running telecom towers.

Similarly, the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association sent a request for proposal to seven RESCOs, including Moser Bayer and ABB, stating that they were ready to purchase their entire power generation portfolio to power their telecom towers.
