Indian equipment manufacturers such as Tejas, Kaveri, Vihaan are looking at tapping new business opportunities with the roll out of 4G in India.
Currently, the Europe and America- based technology firms enjoy a huge lead over their Indian counterparts when it comes to older mobile technologies such as GSM, CDMA or 3G. However, 4G technology standards being entirely new worldwide, will give the Indian telecom equipment manufacturers an opportunity to garner a larger share in the multi-billion dollar equipment market.
The total market for telecom equipment in India is expected reach at Rs 7 billion over the next five years. It is this growing market that holds promise for Indian telecom equipment manufacturers.
In addition to the core equipment, Indian gear makers also look at supplying backhaul network gear as 4G will generate a high bandwidth and data requirements.
The Indian telecom equipment manufacturers need to implement new standards and add value to effectively use bandwidth, thereby creating intellectual property (IP).
