According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), in February 2012, the total user base in the country stood at 943.49 million. Telecom operators added 7.44 million wireless subscribers during the month.

The overall teledensity stood at 78.10 per cent.
Idea Cellular led the pack in terms of user additions, with over 2.58 million new subscribers. Idea was followed by Uninor, with 2.34 million user additions.
Bharti Airtel added 1.82 million subscribers, while Reliance Communications and Vodafone added 0.97 million and 0.83 million new customers respectively.
Meanwhile, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) added 0.11 million and 34,988 new users respectively.
Aircel added 0.79 million new subscribers, while Tata Teleservices Limited registered a loss of 1.83 million subscribers in the period under consideration.
The new players, Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited, Videocon and Loop, added 0.231 million, 0.348 million and 11,426 new users, respectively.
