The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) may issue demand notices of Rs 5.56 million to Reliance Communications (RCOM) and Bharti Airtel for violating the licence agreement by registering new subscribers without proper verification in Delhi.

An internal DoT note stated, “Proper verification has not been carried out by operators at the time of providing service to these subscribers. Hence, Bharti Airtel has violated the terms and conditions. Therefore on these grounds, the prescribed financial penalty is of Rs 0.279 million.?

Similarly, Reliance Communications too has violated the licensing terms and norms and has to pay Rs 5.28 million as penalty to DoT.
