A Delhi court has postponed its order on the bail request of Siddharth Behura, former secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to November 3, 2011. Behura is one of the individuals indicted in the 2G spectrum case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation?s (CBI) special court will also announce its order on the bail petitions of the seven other individuals indicted in the case.
Behura’s counsel informed the CBI special judge O.P. Saini that the agency was discriminating among the individuals involved in the case, as it opposed bail for some and did not oppose for others.
The CBI had not opposed the bail requests of Kanimozhi, Sharad Kumar (director, Kalaignar TV), Rajiv B. Agarwal and Asif Balwa (directors of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables) and Karim Morani (director, Cineyug Media and Entertainment).
However, it was not in favor of granting bail to Shahid Balwa and R.K. Chandolia, on grounds that they played a larger role in the case.
In response, Behura?s counsel said, “The prosecution is making a distinction among the accused, which highlights a political angle to the legal process.? However, special public prosecutor U.U. Lalit said that a distinction could be made.
