The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) plans to begin the process of 2G spectrum allocation after taking a decision on the issue of spectrum pricing. The latter is expected to be finalised within the next three months.
Prior to this, TRAI had made recommendations on any extra spectrum held by operators and DoT had sought clarification on several points from the regulator.
For instance, DoT had sought clarification on whether operators should be charged retrospectively or from the current date for the additional spectrum.
DoT had also sought clarification on the rationale for defining the prescribed limit for spectrum allocation.
