The Supreme Court has said that no timely action was taken to prevent the 2G spectrum issue, especially since Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh?s slant towards auctioning 2G spectrum was not taken into account.

As a result, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), under former Minister of Telecommunications and IT, A. Raja adopted the first-come-first served policy with regard to auctioning 2G spectrum.

A bench comprising justices G.S. Singhvi and H.L. Dattu said that Raja disagreed with Dr Manmohan Singh on this issue and proceeded with issuing Letters of Intent (LoI).

The bench was hearing the bail arguments of Sanjay Chandra, managing director, Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu) and Swan Telecom’s director Vinod Goenka, both of who are indicted in the case.
