Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is believed to have shortlisted Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) and Aircel to ink 3G roaming agreements in the Delhi and Mumbai circles.
The agreement is expected to boost the incumbent?s annual revenues by Rs 2.50-3 billion. In 2010-11, its net loss was Rs 28.26 billion, an 8.3 per cent increase from Rs 26.11 billion in 2009-10.
It is believed that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has approved the final stage of this deal.
MTNL and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited obtained 3G spectrum a year ahead of the auction for private companies, which was held in 2010. In June 2010, MTNL had invited bids from private operators to ink 3G roaming agreements, as it had to cancel the earlier tender.
MTNL had received bids from Aircel and TTSL. Aircel had won 3G spectrum in 13 circles and TTSL in nine.
