Uninor has crossed the 25 million user milestone in India. The company launched commercial services in eight telecom circles in December 2009. After launching services in five more, the company reached its current commercial footprint of 13 circles in June 2010. The 25 million milestone was reached in 18 months of the first circle launch and within 12 months of completing its current commercial footprint.
Uttar Pradesh East (4.05 million), Uttar Pradesh West (2.99 million) Bihar (2.81 million) and West Bengal (2.38 million) have emerged as the strongest circles, together contributing almost 48 per cent of the total subscription base. These are followed by Andhra Pradesh (2.34 million), Maharashtra (2.19 million) and Gujarat (1.96 million).
?Our long-term ambition is to establish ourselves amongst the top six operators in each of our circles. There is some distance to go until we reach that goal, but we are encouraged by the progress we are making.? said Sigve Brekke, MD, Uninor.
Uninor changed its market strategy in mid-2009 to focus on three areas-mass market distribution, basic services and cost efficient operations. Consequently, Uninor?s distribution network has been extended to 320,000 points of sale, 622 exclusive stores and 1699 distributors in these circles.
Currently on an average, Uninor adds between 1.5 and 2 million new users every month.
