Qualcomm is believed to be in advanced talks with Bharti airtel to sell its BWA licences, say news reports.
Qualcomm had paid about $1.05 billion for these licences, which has four markets, Delhi, Mumbai, Kerala and Haryana. The company is likely to sell the licences at a premium of 25-30 per cent, taking the deal value to $1.2-1.3 billion.
For Bharti’s own licences, the company had paid about Rs 33 billion, and is likely to be willing to buy the BWA licences at a premium as they include key circles such as Delhi and Mumbai.
Bharti and Aircel were learnt to be interested in picking up Qualcomm licences; however, Aircel withdrew from the process because of various issues.
Qualcomm has a 74 per cent stake in Qualcomm India, which owns these BWA licences, and the remaining stake is with GTL and Tulip, who will also sell their stake in this company.
