
In a consultation meeting with the telecom sector?s stakeholders, Kapil Sibal, Minister of Telecommunications and IT asked operators to set aside their differences before it adversely impacted the growth of the sector, according to news reports. Other issues raised during this meeting included spectrum sharing, mergers and acquisitions and annual spectrum usage charge.
According to Rajan S Mathews, director general, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), Sibal has given the stakeholders until March 31, 2011 to provide their recommendations to solve various issues.
The recommendations given by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on spectrum management and licensing framework was the centre of deliberations at the conference.
Sibal said that these issues will be taken to the Telecom Commission and the government is expected to take a decision on them soon.
The meeting was attended by the top officials of various telecom companies, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, etc.
