Telenor has washed its hands of the responsibility to clear its Indian arm in the issue over allocation of mobile permits, according to reports. The company says it entered the market much later and the onus is on its local partner, Unitech to address the multiple probes the joint venture is facing.

Jon Fredrik Baksaas, president and chief executive officer, Telenor also said that any move by the Indian government to take retrospective action against Uninor would impact foreign investments into India.

Telenor entered the Indian telecom space last year by purchasing a controlling stake in Unitech Wireless, for $1.3 billion. Unitech was amongst the nine companies that were awarded telecom permits in 2008.
