
The regulator also intends to launch a consultation paper on a “Do Call” registry service. According to the service, only registered users will be called by telemarketing firms, while unsolicited calls made to mobile phone users outside the registry will be illegal.
The reason for introducing the scheme is the mild response to the National Do Not Call (NDNC) registry, introduced by TRAI in October 2007. The NDNC registry includes only 20 million of the total 448 million mobile users.
