BSNL has decided to place an order for 5.25 million GSM lines worth $500 million with Ericsson. As this is an extension of an earlier contract signed between the two companies in 2007, Ericsson will have to provide the equipment at the price finalised in 2007. However, it remains unclear whether Ericsson will accept the deal at the 2007 price. According to sources, the equipment vendor will undertake the contract only if it does not have to supply equipment like towers, generators, shelters and stabilisers.
