
Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) has contracted South Korean telecom operator KT Corporation to install a new IP backbone to expand the availability of high speed internet services in Bangladesh. As part of a BDT2.8 billion project titled Internet Information Network Expansion, jointly financed by the Bangladesh and Korean governments, KT Corporation will deploy fibre optic IP backbone infrastructure for BTCL, which will link six divisions and 17 district towns over 18 months. South Korea is providing BDT1.7 million in loans for the IP project, which is equivalent to 60 per cent of the total required investment.
