China’s ZTE Corporation is partnering with Thailand’s state-run operator CAT Telecom to build a fibre optic backbone network across Thailand. According to the contract signed between the two companies, ZTE will provide CAT with a dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) backbone transmission platform, supporting the planned rollout of around 10,000 km of DWDM fibre optic cable. When complete, the network will consist of DWDM long distance and provincial trunk lines, interconnected with local metropolitan area networks that will carry IP traffic, including 1 gigabit Ethernet, 10 gigabit Ethernet and other access services.
