
China Telecom has launched a tender for 574,000 IPTV set-top boxes, with each provincial branch in the country handling its own acquisition process under a unified framework managed centrally. The tender involves procurement of 536,000 standard definition set-top boxes and 38,000 high definition set-top boxes with all devices being compliant with H.264 encoding. The potential bidders are reported to be those companies participating in the telecom operator’s IPTV 2.0 test process which is designed to move China Telecom to a more advanced IPTV platform.
