Ericsson’s move to replace the Sun Microsystems and EMC Corporation storage solutions to be deployed for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) disaster recovery programme with Hewlett-Packard (HP) products has led to a controversy. While BSNL is believed to be favouring the move, Sun and EMC are exploring options, including legal recourse. BSNL had floated a tender in March 2006 following which the company’s technical committee approved the installation of the storage solutions from Sun and EMC. However, in April 2008, Ericsson sought permission to use HP solutions in the northern, eastern and western zones of the country.
