Thailand-based mobile operators DTAC and CAT Telecom are reportedly planning to form a joint venture (JV) to offer 3G services on DTAC’s 850 MHz frequency-based network. According to the partnership concept, DTAC will claim 850 MHz of analog frequency with the National Telecommunications Commission; subsequently, the two companies will set up a JV to apply for a Type 3 operating licence for 3G. DTAC and CAT Telecom will provide 3G mobile services under a revenue-sharing agreement based on their shareholdings. Earlier, DTAC had outlined plans to either apply for a 3G licence or to upgrade its existing 1800 MHz frequencybased network to launch 3G services.
