Chunghwa Telecom has been allowed by Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) to operate E.164-format VoIP service. Unlike VoIP based on general IP transmissions, Chunghwa will upgrade its existing telephony network to a quality of service IP network specifically to provide VoIP services. While Chief Telecom, Chunghwa Telecom’s subsidiary, will provide VoIP service based on general IP transmission mainly for business users, Chunghwa Telecom’s better quality VoIP service will cater to individual users. The launch time is yet to be disclosed.
