Bharti Airtel is planning to expand its tower network from the existing 40,000 towers to 80,000 by March 2008. The company will spend Rs 4.3 billion on the expansion. This is part of the Rs 140 billion investment on network expansion announced by Bharti Airtel.
Most of the towers are to be built in rural areas. Meanwhile, the company is planning to sell management control of its passive infrastructure business, Bharti Infratel. RCOM and some private equity players are likely to be in the race for the Bharti Infratel stake.
