DoT has rejected the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI recommendation for implementing number portability for mobile services by April 2007. While Tata Teleservices was in favour of the move, COAI, BSNL and MTNL opposed it as implementing number portability would require operators to pay over Rs 40 billion, which would lead to an increase in tariffs.
