Reliance Communications, Hutchison Essar and Idea Cellular have signed an agreement to share passive infrastructure for cell sites.
Reliance will gain access to Hutch’s over 16,000 and Idea’s 7,000 sites. This will substantially reduce capital and operational expenditure for those involved. It will also reduce Reliance’s infrastructure rollout duration by more than half, enabling it to offer GSMbased services. The company is also planning to enter into infrastructure-sharing agreements with Bharti Airtel, Spice Telecom and Aircel ?? these will enable Reliance to install its electronic infrastructure at over 50,000 cell sites.
