
T-Mobile USA, Verizon Wireless and a consortium of US cable companies have won a US wireless spectrum auction of 1,122 licences with bids totalling $13.9 billion. Consequently, TMobile, which spent $4.18 billion for 120 licences, may be able to offer 3G services for the first time. Verizon Wireless has spent $2.8 billion for 13 licences and Cingular Wireless has paid $1.33 billion for 48 licences. Consequently, T-Mobile USA has confirmed plans to roll out 3G wireless services using the spectrum that it has won.
