MTNL has launched its next-generation CDMA service (CDMA1X) in Delhi for mobile subscribers. It is offering a host of tariff schemes on this network, including unlimited free calls to one MTNL landline number for one year. The network, set up at an investment of Rs 30 billion, has a 400,000 line capacity. The PSU is also planning to become the first telecom operator in the country to introduce Wi-Max technology on a large scale. To this end, the company is launching pilot projects in Delhi and Mumbai, and will launch services commercially once the regulator assigns spectrum to it.
