DoT has stepped in to resolve the issue of NLD carriage charges between BSNL and MTNL. Earlier, MTNL had demanded that BSNL, which carries the bulk of MTNL’s traffic, bring down the carriage cost. Failing this, it would take its business to private NLD operators, which would impact BSNL’s revenues by about Rs 9 billion. Following DoT’s intervention, BSNL may lower its carrier charge to around Re 0.40 from the current Re 0.65, in line with what private operators pay.
