The Indonesian government is reportedly planning to increase its T stake in PT Indosat, the country’s second largest phone company, by offering to buy shares from public stockholders. The government may spend 12 trillion rupiah ($1.25 billion) in buying Indosat shares from the public or from Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte.

The news came soon after Indosat reported 14.4 million subscribers at the end of 2005, beating its own forecast of 14 million for the year.
