Telecom minister, Dayanidhi Maran has said that the government would begin the process of allocating spectrum for third-generation (3G) telecom services in the first quarter of 2006. At the India Economic Summit 2005 he stated that the introduction of 3G would facilitate the launch of various value-added services and bring in fresh competition. It would also help boost FDI in the sector.
