US-based telecommunications equipment maker UTStarcom Inc. plans to enter China’s mobile phone market by launching a mobile phone model based on the GSM standard. To begin with, it plans to lease a local firm’s handset manufacturing licence.
Meanwhile, the company has applied to the Chinese regulator for a licence to manufacture and sell mobile phones in the country.
