According to data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), GSM operators added 9.53 million subscribers in May 2011. The total user base thus stood at 590.19 million.
Bharti airtel added 2.45 million mobile subscribers in May 2011, taking its total user base to 167.1 million.
Vodafone Essar also added 2.45 million subscribers in May to touch a total of 139.4 million users. Idea Cellular added 1.8 million mobile users and its total user base stands at 93.8 million.
Uninor added 1.14 million mobile subscribers to reach a total of 25.4 million users. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) added 0.47 million and 20,604 users respectively, taking their subscriber base to 87.61 million and 5.23 million, respectively.
