8.58 million GSM users were added in June 2011: COAI

According to data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), 8.58 million GSM users were added in June 2011, the lowest in 31 months. In May 2011, GSM operators added 10.76 million, again the lowest since October 2009.

 India had 851.7 million mobile connections in June 2011 and a teledensity of 71 per cent. The country?s urban areas registered a teledensity of 150 per cent, with certain states, including Himachal Pradesh, having urban penetration of over 430 per cent.
